I look forward to having a connection to the Port of Kolding again
On 21 June, Lotte G. Lundberg joins the Board of the Port of Kolding. She is looking forward to contributing new perspectives on growth opportunities as well as solid experience in implementing capital-intensive projects – and she has an old love for the port.
The Port of Kolding has experienced impressive growth in recent years and ended 2017 with a historically good balance sheet, but also with a challenge to find new growth opportunities as the capacity of the port is being fully utilised. The Port of Kolding has the potential to grow further – not least because of the close links between road, rail and sea transport, which make the Port of Kolding an attractive partner for many companies – but this requires both expansion of the port and creative thinking so that growth can also come from completely new angles. In relation to both challenges, Lotte G. Lundberg will be an important resource for the port’s development.
– In addition to having been Managing Director of Maersk Broker Agency (now acquired by shipping.dk, ed.) a major shipping agency in the Danish and Scandinavian ports, I have extensive experience with capital-intensive projects – among others from my time at A.P. Møller – Mærsk Gruppen, where my team and I were responsible for many years for the purchase and negotiation of contracts for new ships and drilling rigs. This includes establishing a sound, long-term and sustainable business case, ensuring that the project description is good enough to leave no doubt about the expected delivery, and managing risks. Large projects, such as the expansion of a port area, take several years to complete. Contracts must be reasonable and clear, so that the cooperation between the supplier and the customer works for both parties, in order for the project to succeed satisfactorily in the end, says Lotte G. Lundberg, who also sits on the board of the Port of Frederikshavn, which recently completed a port expansion.
Grønborgs Tømmerhandel gave inspiration for maritime career
The G in Lotte G. Lundberg covers the name Grønborg, which many in Kolding and the surrounding area associate with the large timber business that years ago was located where the University of Southern Denmark is now in Kolding. As a young girl, Lotte G. Lundberg worked in the timber trade and at the port, through which timber was originally imported to Grønborg Tømmerhandel.
– It was the Port of Kolding that inspired me to apply to join Mærsk as an international shipping apprentice at the age of 19. Here I was educated and gained a lot of experience and knowledge about shipping, transport, logistics and port operations, which I now use actively in my board work, says Lotte G. Lundberg. She makes no secret of the fact that this is also one of the reasons why she has accepted the seat on the board, and she is looking forward to contributing.
Strong capacity
It was the Port of Kolding that contacted Lotte G. Lundberg to invite her to join the port’s board, and it is of course a satisfied chairman who can announce that the framework for cooperation has been established.
– She brings both experience and skills from areas that we work intensively with at the Port of Kolding, and I am sure that we will benefit greatly from her commitment in the years to come. I am very much looking forward to working with her and the other members of the Board.
